After reading the title you might think, " Whoever's writing this, they're probably not telling the truth". Well, it is the truth. I actually didn't believe it at first but it is the truth. I learned this fact from my Test Prep book. Harriet Quimby was the first woman to fly. Learn more about her!

Harriet Quimby was a child when she became interested in flying. Harriet would attend air shows and parties. When other women stayed to take care of their houses, Harriet went to learn how to drive a car. She was very adventurous.

Harriet Quimby did something very daring . She flew over the 25 mile English Channel when no other woman could. Not only that, but, she asked the London Daily Mirror to pay for her trip. Of course, she gave something in trade. Harriet said that she wold give articles about the trip so the London Daily Mirror could publish them. It was a deal.

During the end of her journey Harriet couldn't see because there was so much fog. Since her airplane didn't have fancy instruments, Harriet used her compass to navigate her way to the landing. I was fascinated by the fact that she only used her compass and found the landing place. It still amazes me now.

When Harriet landed, there was nobody there. Then, suddenly fishermen rushed to her and greeted her. The fishermen and their families carried her like she was a great super hero. That was the moment when Harriet became the first woman to fly.
